Ofcom is the communications regulator in the UK. We regulate the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. We employee approximately 860 colleagues in 6 principal offices across the UK, with the majority of our colleagues (approximately 700) based at our London headquarters. Although our workforce is principally office based, we have a team of approximately 60 engineers and enforcement staff who are based across the UK, whose work exposes them to specific, acute risks e.g. driving, working at heights. Additionally, we have a consumer contact sentre in Warrington and a team of colleagues based at our headquarters at Riverside House who are responsible for overseeing content standards in television and radio. Each team presents a unique set of health and safety issues for you to manage. Some of our work requires some overseas travel, principally within Europe and occasionally internationally. The organisation is currently undergoing a significant change programme as it moves to a more agile (hot desk) working environment. This involves a substantial cultural change programme, enabled by the re-design and refurbishment of our offices.
Ofcom is seeking an experienced and qualified Health & Safety Manager to join the organisation at this exciting time. You will be responsible for driving the development of the Health and Safety management framework as the organisation moves through a period of unprecedented change. You will have the opportunity to engage with colleagues across the organisation, including members of the Senior Management Team and the Board. The role is part of a small risk team which has broad range of responsibilities including operational risk, information security, health & safety, crisis management, business continity, personal and physical security. You will have experience of having worked for an organisation that has undergone a transition to agile working and that has a field based work force.
The successful candidate will have first-class communications skills as well as the knowledge and the passion to make a real difference.
